Test systems for the diagnosis of HIV infection at home will be tested for effectiveness by American supervisory authorities.

OraQuick test strips are designed to detect carriers of the immunodeficiency virus.

Saliva, plasma and blood can be used as a material for research. The strip after contact with the biomaterial in 20 minutes will indicate the presence or absence of HIV antibodies in the test sample.

OraQuick test systems have been used by medical specialists since 2004. With professional use, the exact determination of the presence or absence of HIV infection is determined by 99%.

OraSure Technologies intends to offer its products for mass use. The company will need to obtain the approval of the supervisory service to organize the free sale of test systems.

During the tests in which volunteers participated, the accuracy of HIV diagnosis using OraQuick was 93%; according to the requirements of the FDA, this indicator should be at least 95%. In this regard, according to the department's estimates, about 3.8 thousand examined persons may receive false information about the absence of HIV infection.

The free sale of express tests, according to the manufacturer, will allow examining a significant part of the country's population, because they do not require the help of medical workers.

As the manufacturing company expects, for every million Americans surveyed, about 9 thousand carriers of the virus will be identified.
