Sex with robots is prohibited

Buyers of the Pepper robot were banned from using it for sexual pleasures

The creators of the humanoid robot Pepper, capable of expressing adequate emotions, forbade android users to use it for sex, create erotic applications for it and reprogram it for the purpose of using it for flirting. This is reported by the Daily Mail (No sex please, we're robots! Buyers of hit new 'emotional robot' Pepper to sign contract vowing it won't be used indecently).

Pepper is developed jointly by Aldebaran Robotics and SoftBank. According to the concept stated by the creators, the robot is able to recognize emotions by analyzing the timbre of the voice and the facial expression of the person addressing it. The cost of one car is 198 thousand yen (approximately 1.6 thousand US dollars at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on September 8). The robot was first shown to the public in the summer of 2014, it went on sale in Japan a year later.

The Japanese company SoftBank, which developed Pepper, has included a special paragraph in the text of the user agreement prohibiting the use of the robot "for sexual or obscene actions."

In addition, Pepper buyers are asked to refrain from developing software applications that include it in actions related to sex and violence. Finally, android should not be used by the owner in dating, flirting and courting representatives of the opposite sex.

Nevertheless, the asexual Pepper is already being subjected to risky manipulations. So, Japanese programmers rewrote its program code and equipped the android with a virtual female breast. The author of the project stated that the purpose of the modified robot is to simulate sexual harassment.

Pepper is designed for living together with people. He understands the feelings of a person, expresses affection and sympathy, gives advice to his masters and chats with them.

On September 15, 2015, a campaign against sex robots began in the UK. Technology companies should stop developing sex robots with artificial intelligence, as these machines threaten the future of humanity. They increase the popularity of prostitution and make people perceive sexual relations as something soulless and mechanical, the initiators of the campaign claim.
