A new candidate for the Darwin Prize died after eating cockroaches:(

The winner of the cockroach eating contest has died in the USA

<url>A 32-year-old resident of the American city of Deerfield Beach died after winning a cockroach-eating contest, CNN reports (Florida man dies after winning roach-eating contest).

The incident occurred on October 5, but it became known only now.

Edward Archbold swallowed several dozen cockroaches and worms to win a python at a local pet store for $850. Another 30 people competed with him. Archbold was awarded the victory in the competition, but after a few minutes he became ill.

He went outside because he was vomiting heavily. Archbold lost consciousness and his friend called 911. Doctors could not save the winner.

The rest of the contestants feel fine. A representative of the pet store apologized in a post on Facebook, however, he disclaimed responsibility for the death of the contestant. "Such competitions are held all over the world, and cockroaches are grown in advance in safe conditions as food for reptiles," says the owner of the store.

Forensic experts have appointed an autopsy, which should explain the cause of the American's death. Cockroaches are carriers of dangerous microorganisms, for example, salmonella, which multiplies in the intestines of insects.
