The geriatric service will appear in 2019 in seven regions of Russia
A three-level geriatric service will appear this year in seven regions of Russia. This was announced on Wednesday at the forum "Healthy Society. On the way to the goal: 80+" Director of the Russian Gerontological Research and Clinical Center (RGNCC), chief freelance geriatrician of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Olga Tkacheva.
"In the national project "Demography" there is a section "Geriatrics". And in 2019, a geriatric service will be formed in seven regions – a three-level geriatric service, classical. We have not invented anything new, such services are very developed in countries where there is a lot of aging population," Tkacheva said, adding that 68 regions will be covered by geriatric services in 2020, 85 regions in 2024.
According to her, there are not enough geriatricians in Russia. "According to the end of 2018, we have about 500 geriatricians – this is also a great achievement, we need 2 thousand geriatricians by 2024. And if you compare with other countries, for example, there are now 8 thousand geriatricians in the United States and by the 30th year they will have almost 12 thousand geriatricians, and they say that this is not enough. There are now 6 thousand geriatricians in England," Tkacheva said.
Forum "Healthy society. On the way to the goal: 80+" in Sochi is held for the first time as part of the Russian Investment Forum. It is planned that it will become a specialized annual platform for discussing tools to achieve the goal of increasing life expectancy to 78 years by 2024 and to 80 years by 2030.
The main part of the forum's agenda is devoted to the development of proposals by the expert community on the implementation of national programs and projects in the areas of "Demography", "Healthcare", "Science", "Education" and "Ecology". The Forum is held with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Investment Forum is being held in Sochi on February 14-15. February 13 is the so–called zero day when the delegations arrived in Sochi. The main topic of the forum this year is the implementation of national projects.
