The sale of a cancer vaccine will begin in China, the China News Service news portal reports. The China Food and Drug Administration has approved the sale of a drug that will help women fight cervical cancer.

The vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) Garadasil was developed in 2006 by Merck &Co. HPV is responsible for the occurrence of cervical cancer in women and genital cancer in men. This vaccine is already used in 120 countries around the world, including the USA, Australia, and Russia.

Cervical cancer is the second most common occurrence among women aged 15 to 44 years in China after breast cancer. According to statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the People's Republic of China, more than 130 thousand cases of cervical cancer are detected every year, which is 28% of the global number. Garadasil is the first HPV vaccine in the world, and the second cancer vaccine approved in China. The first was Cervarix, approved after 10 years of waiting in July last year. The sale of the vaccine will begin within three to six months in mainland China. Previously, women had to travel to Hong Kong for vaccination. Zhifei Biological Products Co, an exclusive distributor, plans to purchase $166 million worth of vaccines in the first year of implementation.
