Geriatric-on-Amur

Taking care of the elderly

AGMA

The Faculty of Postgraduate Education of the Medical Academy is preparing for graduation the first group of doctors of a new specialty for the Amur region – geriatrics (geriatrics is a field of medicine that studies diseases of elderly and senile people).

The order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the approval of the Procedure for the provision of medical care in the profile "geriatrics" was issued in January 2016. The corresponding regulatory document was also issued at the regional level, which instructed the medical university to prepare specialists of this profile at the Faculty of Postgraduate Education (FDO).

"The relevance of such a decision is obvious," says Natalia Tretyakova, chief freelance specialist–general practitioner of the Ministry of Health of the region, Head of the Department of Internal Diseases of the FPDO, Candidate of Medical Sciences. – There is a steady increase in the share of elderly and old people in the total population of the planet, therefore, there is an increasing need to increase the volume of medical care for older people, to develop methods of their treatment and prevention in order to preserve physical and mental health until old age. We recruited 16 doctors to the first group. They have been undergoing retraining with us for four months and will now receive a diploma in a new specialty – geriatrician. They will be released next week."

The program of retraining of doctors also includes a series of lectures by the famous geriatrician from Israel Anna Gichka. She is a graduate of the Amur medical University and she herself wished to take part in the training of new specialists for Amur healthcare. "The head of the hospital where I work supported me in this decision, moreover, he said that I simply had to come here and share my experience as a sign of gratitude for the knowledge I received while studying at the Blagoveshchensk Medical Institute," Anna Fridrikhovna smiles. – And I'm happy to do it! It is wonderful that such a training course is organized. As you know, the morality of the state is determined by its attitude towards children and the elderly. When I was a student, we didn't even have such a term – geriatrics, so, casually mentioned, purely theoretically. And now a whole service is being created, and that's great."

Anna Fridikhovna's lectures, very interesting, informative, unusual, were attended not only by the listeners of the cycle, but also by students, interns, staff of departments, as well as doctors studying at other FPDO courses – information, experience and knowledge of a specialist in geriatrics are important and necessary for any doctor today.
